115 km southeast of Puerto Varas, this lake is nestled among mountains in the middle of dense forests. Its name comes from the mapundungún "Trapén" that means United when being in the foothills of the Calbuco Volcano. The lake is surrounded to the north by the Llanquihue National Reserve and to the south by the Alerce Andino Park.
